If you have any strategies or guides for playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance add them here!

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an Open-World RPG based on historic research, work by historians and sourced from literature from that era. However, we do not claim to be 100% historical accurate in every aspect of the time, although we have striven to be as close as we can. You will find that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a slower-paced game than many medieval-based games you may have played in the past. We would strongly suggest that — while exploring the world — you thoroughly explore your surroundings and see if you can use anything to your advantage. This not only goes for encounters with hostile forces but quests also offer several solutions which might require a different skill set or less obvious approaches.

Saving the game

The game saves automatically when you start a new quest or advance to an important event. You can save your game manually but this can only be done by sleeping in your own bed, visiting a bathhouse, or drinking Saviours Schnapps. Saviours Schnapps can be either brewed by alchemy or bought from an innkeeper or most general traders. Be sure to always keep at least a couple with you.

Money

Picking Herbs and selling them to the herb Trader is an easy way to make money in the early game. Deep-green Nettle is commonly found at roadsides and around structures, while Dandelion, Sage, Mint, Valerian, Marigold, Chamomile, and Wormwood are found off-road in fields and brush. This is useful to remember during early Quest objectives that require purchasing items, for which you may not have enough money initially.

Quests

Some quests are time-limited and should be prioritized if you want to complete them. If a character tells you to meet him first thing in the morning, he might get angry if you show up late. There can be even more serious consequences. For example, if you agree to help with healing someone who is ill and then delay for too long, they might die.

Most quests can be solved in different ways. Explore the possibilities and don’t worry if you fail or skip some objectives.

Note

This is one of the unique elements of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Unlike in other Open World games, a quest-related person might not wait for you. They could move on and the quest will happen without you participating! This will not happen for the main story line but might result in a very different game experience. The result is that players feel they are immersed in a dynamic living world.

  • If you do not start a quest, it will not happen. You will not miss out on any opportunity.
  • Before taking on a quest, make sure to be prepared!

Progression

Main article: Skills

All skills are advanced by practice. T e only exceptions are Reading and Pickpocketing, which require you to complete training so you can advance them above level 0. The fastest way to level up Stealth is by performing non-lethal stealth takedowns. At Stealth level 5 you can unlock stealth kills.

You will get your own horse for free a few hours into the main storyline. It’s generally a good idea to outfit your horse with a better saddle, so it can carry more items. You can also buy yourself a better horse when you’ve got enough coin.

Horses

While exploring Bohemia on foot is fun and gives you a great view of it’s beautiful landscape, riding might be the travel method of choice when it comes to picking up some speed.

The horse has three base tempos:

  • The trot is the horse basic pace.
  • Walking your horse will give it a chance to recover.
  • Cantering is the ideal mix between a sprint and endurance.

Sprinting your horse will give you a strong boost of speed but not last for very long.

  • Your horse has its own Stamina indicator. It will deplete when galloping and if you try to push your horse when its Stamina is low, it may throw you off. Galloping can be exhausting and can deplete your Stamina too, especially if you’re not an experienced horseman.
  • The horse isn’t a mindless animal. It will stick to the path you’re on; just begin cantering and don’t steer him.

Combat

Main article: Combat

Visit Sir Bernard near the Combat Arena in Rattay and ask him to give you combat practice. T is will not only allow you to raise your character’s combat skills but, more importantly, will provide you with an opportunity to get comfortable with all combat features before you venture into danger. Take your time and don’t rush into the fray unprepared.

Be sure to return to Captain Bernard as you progress through the game, as he is the only character who can walk you through advanced fighting techniques like Combos and Master Strikes. These abilities make combat much more fun and are helpful when fighting overwhelming odds or higher-level opponents.

The basis of every combat system is movement, rapid reactions and correct timing. If you master these three areas, you’ll rule the combat arena. You can slash with your weapon from any of the five directions and stab towards the centre. An opponent will less-effectively block strikes to the side where he’s not holding his sword or shield. After each strike, the attack zone changes to the next one in line, but you can attack from a different side by changing the direction before finishing the strike. Each blow will wound whichever part of the body it lands on depending on what sort of armour is protecting it.

Food, rest and healing

Main article: Survival

Food is relatively easy to come by. Visit butchers, bakers and other vendors. You can hunt for meat and cook it over a fire, but remember: poaching is a crime!

As you advance through the story, you unlock different homes for Henry. You can also rent rooms at certain inns, either for a day or to permanent residency. Homes provide you with a bed (among other things). When you’re injured, you can heal yourself by sleeping in it, or by drinking potions or visiting bathhouses.

Alchemy

Main article: Alchemy

Alchemy is a useful skill that transforms herbs and other ingredients into potions and remedies. In order to brew those, you need knowledge of alchemy, a recipe, an alchemist’s bench and the necessary ingredients.

In the alchemist’s lab you will find a herbarium on the right side of the bench, which lists all the properties of herbs and all the recipes you have learnt so far. Turn the pages to the recipe or plant description you want. It is always best to follow the recipe in the book. On the recipe, you can also set all the necessary ingredients straight onto the alchemy bench.

Gambling

Main article: Gambling

If you want to try your hand at gambling, it’s possible to play the dice game of Farkle in every respectable tavern. The goal of this two-player game is to be the first to reach a certain number of points. Six dice are thrown and the players alternate turns. Points are gained for every one or five thrown, and for three or more of a kind of any other number. A full description of the scoring is included in the game’s help menu.

Haggling

Haggling works both ways – whether you want to buy cheap or sell dear. You select the amount you want to pay or receive and confirm. The trader will then respond to your offer. If they refuse, he or she will make a counter-offer and wait for your response.

Dragging out the haggling with one offer after another will gradually try the trader's patience and eventually they'll drop the haggling completely. You can see how close you’re getting to that point from the trader icon below the bar: the more gold there is in the background, the closer the trader is to dropping the haggling. Every unsuccessful bout of haggling lowers your reputation with the trader. If the slider can't be moved in one direction or the other, it means either you or the trader does not have enough money.

Honing

If you want to maintain bladed weapons, you can save your repair kit and hone it yourself on a grindstone, which you can find at every smithy. Just approach the grindstone, start the process; and select from the list which weapon you want to hone. A full description of the honing mechanics can be found in the game’s help menu.

Lockpicking

In order to pick locks, you must have at least one lockpick in your inventory, although it’s better to have one or two spares, since they get worn out with use and in the worst case, can break. You start the actual lockpicking process by holding on the lock. You will then see a diagram of the lock mechanism, in which you have to fi nd the right spot to insert the lockpick.

If you try to turn the mechanism without having the lockpick in the correct position, the mechanism will stick, which will damage the lockpick or even break it. Any damage to the lockpick will produce a noise, which can draw unwanted attention, and breaking it will cause an even louder snap. How close you are to the sweet spot is indicated by the size of the cursor, and it turns gold when you find it.

Pickpocketing

Picking pockets is no joking matter. If you’re caught with your fingers in someone else’s purse, either by the victim or by a witness, they’ll raise the alarm and you’ll be pursued as a thief. In order to rob someone successfully, you first have to sneak up on them unnoticed and then begin pickpocketing.

Hold the USE button to start a counter. The longer you hold the button (and the longer you are unseen) the more time you have to look through your victim’s pockets. Pickpocketing is a mini game comparable to a claw machine; select your item, drag it to the top of the pocket and stay in your time window.

A full description of the pickpocketing mechanics can be found in the game’s help menu. If you’re experienced in pickpocketing and expert on items (you’ve fully learned the Item Expert perk), you can also see the properties of the stolen item.
